Wey Chieftain is based in Weymouth and offers divers the opportunity to access a huge number of dive sites within its range from a truly state-of –the-art platform.


Wey Chieftain IV was commissioned in 2010 and has unparalled speed and comfort for a vessel of her type.


She is skippered by Grahame Knott who, with twenty years experience as a dive charter skipper out of Weymouth, is a touch older than the boat but equally state-of-the-art!


Wey Chieftain IV is an advanced displacement hull catamaran which means,

Plenty of car parking options close to mooring.

Safety

The boat is equipped with a diver lift, kitting up benches, changing area and WC.
Licensed for ten divers, two crew, code of practice cat 2 up to 60 miles from a safe haven.
O2 is carried on-board.

Facilities

Hot and cold drinks are always available from the galley and there is a local shop right next to us for sandwiches, snacks, papers and much more.
Air, Nitrox and Trimix are a stone's throw along the quay.

Diving

All levels of diver are welcome, We are as happy working inshore exploring the vast number of local wrecks and reefs within sports diver range as we are mid channel exploring deep wrecks.

The bright and airy cabin is functional and spacious with two bench seats in case you want to get out of the weather for a while. The side loading door just makes that loading up easier still.

Your Skipper is Grahame Knott

Wherever you dive in the UK you are unlikely to find a skipper with a broader experience of diving, dive-chartering and wreck exploration than Grahame:

As a Diver

  • Grahame has thirty years diving experience including five years as Diving Officer and four years as Chairman of SAA 660.

As a dive charter skipper/operator

  • Twenty years dive charter experience, specialising in deep wreck location and identification. Skipper of the successful Wey Chieftain series of dive boats. Founder and chairman of the Weymouth and Portland Dive Charter Association. Grahame is also a member and ex director of the Professional Boatman’s Association.

Wreck Exploration

  • A tireless wreck researcher with an extensive knowledge and database of Channel shipwrecks. Leader of the Shipwreck Project which concentrates on locating, filming and surveying pre-20th century wrecks.
  • Eight years as skipper for Ultra Electronics on trials vessel Sea Searcher, taking part in numerous sonar trials for the MOD and the US Navy.
  • Specialist in sonar trials, support and sidescan interpretation. Customers include Marconi, Quinetiq, Simrad, Jay Jay Consultants, Ultra Electronics, BP, Coda Octopus, Oceanic Imaging Consultants, the Dorset Wildlife Trust, Dowty Maritime Systems, BAE Systems and Dorset Police.
